Powerless

POWERLESS

Last night the gale came from the west,
Took many houses trees and farms,
And then demolished all the rest.
It shook us in its mighty arms.

The pounding waves o’ertossed the strand,
Flooding every cave and pool.
No man might e’er the sea withstand
Unless that man be brave or fool.

In the calm of morning’s peace
The tide soon fell and trees were stilled:
We gathered life up piece by piece
And slowly started to rebuild.

We are as toys for the elements.
Our world is treated with disregard.
Like mice or ants to elephants,
Our mile for them is but a yard.
