Positive Words

Positive words make a difference in ways by surprise
One day, someone told me something I’ve never been told
I thought back on the years, so many crisis happened
Yet, no-one ever told me this kind of compliment
Briefly I wondered why, because it was a new surprise
But, now I only know that it will never be forgotten
It reached me deeply with appreciation and relief
Maybe, I won’t need to second guess so much, so often
Yet the words were simple, brief and resonating
I suppose people just hadn’t taken time to recognize it
Then, I realized it’s true.  Oh, the difference words can make!

That’s why I never understood the saying, “ Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me.” It took me years to get over hurtful things said to me in the past—good content with a positive message.
