Porch Light

I sit under our porch light,
wait on our cobble step,
straighten my sock,
last time I was waiting here
I was barefoot...

I study the moths' dancing
attracted to the light...
converging on a beam,
a light by many unseen, scene
...the porch light...

I scratch her name into
my leather boot...
I run my finger over the
wet cobble stones...

into the gaps...I discover
loose discarded pebbles...I
play with these,
the lining
of my tweed coat pocket...
their new home

I stand, I hear the car...
running my hands up the stoop,
my heart races, I clutch
...the tiny pebbles found...

I walk up the path,with
my kiss I greet her, "I locked
myself out"...

..."yes, and I am here to
let you in" she grins...
the porch light
is now brighter

there are many moths' out
tonight, entranced by the
porch light...

I bask in her love-this light
we share...a love a light...
nothing, can compare...

she is my porch light...
