Porcelain Doll

Despondent, she stares at the mirror, hoping to see the girl of her youth. And yet, aging has weathered her skin, and the sun's harsh light confirms the truth. Wrinkles, masked by a coat of makeup, she touches up, whatever's peeling. And the false face staring back at her reflects the distress she is feeling. A dab of powder fills in crow's feet, a rosy rouge brings her cheekbones back. And the bags under her eyes get smoothed, while mascara lashes are brushed black. Red lips complete the porcelain doll, while all her blemishes disappear. And once more, she transforms her image; hiding years behind a thin veneer.

Excellent pen! I feel this same war with the mirror and aging. I never had to wear makeup before. Now I feel hideous without it.

very strong message and image within, so many turn to ways to hide the signs of aging especially those with money...i guess no one wants to grow old...except those that never had a chance, my mother passed at 55 and she always said she could never see herself as an old women...she didn't have to....i liked this one! Might fine writing :)
