Popularity

What's the attraction with all this POPularity crappola in poetry?
--- if nobody remembers your name in fifty years,
we're all on the same boat....
if they remember your name in fifty years,
then you're way beyond popular ---
  (you have talent)

I'll let you know in 50 years if I'm still around - I think I'll be infamous rather than ever being famous Keith:-) hugs

I don't know Jan, you do raise many smiles...I on the other hand make people think, and they don't always like the way I do so...

Sorry, I forgot, fav'íng this because it is a great message that speaks truth about what modern poetry is becoming-- a chalkboard to post fleeting thoughts in whatever modern hash is the meal for the day, IMHO.

You are without doubt among the truly talented poets that post here my friend! Your poetry will stand well the test of time, while some of the modern poets that are slinging the in fashion hash will not in my opinion. I write the same way for posting here whether it is a contest entry or not. I also write for the reader at large-not just the members/readers that may or may not read here.IF NOBODY REMEMBERS MY POETRY, WELL I GAVE IT MY BEST SHOT..

I think many talented people are neither remembered or popular. I think as poets other than a component of entertaining our voices are a synchromesh that helps connect peoples minds to important issues.

Very true Richard, Hopkins wasn't even published while alive, he was only discovered after his death by accident; I personally have many musical friends who could have 'made it' easily, but were never in it for the glory and money --- my best friend was asked by 14 record labels to sign, turned them all down --- the man can sing like songbird, he's happy with his simple writing life and occasional musical jam. Love your points Richard;-)

You make a valid point Keith, the most important thing is to not lose yourself int he hype, always keep it real and be humble..

Exactly, all true artists are sculptors; they always seek to hone their skills to reach the reader on a higher level. It's all about sharing and trying to make a difference;-)

You made me smile! I enjoy so many poets here including you, I focus on that, even some focus on quantity instead of quality. I'd be surprised if anyone remembered me even by tomorrow! LOL
