Pondering The Pavement

I count the weary footsteps of the ultimate walk,
with the mind immersed in hazy contemplation,
for I cross the misty milepost
of the penultimate pathway,
at the fading fringe of the future obscure.
The waning tune of the chromatic strings
of the setting sun in the twilight zone
reverberates the requiem
for the skeletal shadow, silhouetted forlorn
against the sundown skyline of transient radiance,
witnessing despondent
the last sand grain mark the trail of destiny
in the cauldron of time,
illumined by the final flash of the decayed day,
dying.

The tarnished lattice of the sky’s blue fabric,
interlaced seamlessly with consuming cleavage
of the diffusing clouds in swarming storm,
ravages the unwary horizon, halcyon once,
like the still air before the squall,
marks the chameleon shift of the pallid colors
on the convoluted canvas of the vanishing corridor,
rips up the last stones of the frail pavement,
crumbling.

Deformed shards of the splintered sky
spin in gyrating gale with fragmented shadows
of terminal torment on the dismal convoy
of the curled-up bleak clouds.
The remnant rays of sanguinity sparkle still
in the departing flare of the sinking sun,
drowning the montage of the disowned memory,
compose the latent melody of the unsung dreams
with fossilized life’s incoherent cadence,
sequestered in the spectral lyric of sunset swansong,
resonating.
