Pondering Eternity

Yesterday I pondered eternity
And found myself supremely lost in my head
In the memories of
Fond moments
Hateful words
Emotions surging to the surface
Cascading down my cheeks
I found myself at the roots of myself
And I found I couldn’t face them
The positives and negatives
So carefully placed to construct my person

Yesterday I pondered eternity
And instead stumbled upon myself
Yet couldn’t face the truth
That I’ll be lost to the eternity of time
That everything I am, everything I will be
Is for naught
It’s a dismal thing to realize this
So I ignored what I found and moved on

Yesterday I pondered eternity
But what if it isn’t all for nothing?
My love will make an impact on those lives around me
My words will reach the hearts of those I show them to
If not great, I will have some small impact
On the eternity of humanity
Maybe someday I will once again find myself
And truly discover my role in eternity
