Pond of Reflection

The mirrored pond of true reflection
Casts not its gaze on me
For there within, there’s no perfection
Of which mine eyes can see

Upon each ripple, go taken glances
My eyes, they searched for sure
But lost to waves, were life’s romances
And heart that once was pure

She danced with me, gazed in my eyes
She told me it would last
I found the truth, to my surprise
That love would die out fast

There in my face as age persists
The lines, my brow’s now worn
My looks had changed, she could resist
As from my heart, love’s torn

So on to this pond I stare again
My eyes, alone, look back
I see her love was just pretend
As now the pond turns black
