Notes About The Poem

Pond is a poem from my book Melodious Verse, and the anthology Forever Spoken in 2007 it won an editors choice award in 2007. It is also in the newly published anthology Radiant Verses 2024. It is a free verse nonastich poem, nine lines, with mixed end rhyme and meter written in 75 words. Centered for aesthetic symmetry the image is by me Josehf Lloyd Murchison.

Pond

Pond

I sit by a pond near a river. 
The moon glistening like a river of light. 
The crickets call to the lovers. 
Walking beneath the stars in the night. 
I hear an owl calling to who I do not know. 
I see a fire fly flying with a blue green glow. 
I build a small fire and play a happy tune. 
As I sit there and I listen. 
To the call of a single loon.
