Political Betrayal

Such promises you made when asking for our vote But it’s been a year and your vows are now remote What happened to removing troops from the Mideast And finding the right recipe for economic relief Hungry families still living in shabby tents Unemployed fathers pounding streets as they vent New foreclosure signs are erected every day As in Washington with our dollars leaders play That gleam in your eye once inspired us to have hope But middle-class tax breaks were not enough to cope With rising prices at the pumps and in food stores The uninsured yet sit on emergency room floors Though you still seem to feel you have us hoodwinked Betrayal is sensed by those struggling on the brink We now look to you with accusatory eyes Wondering how we consumed your pack of lies Perhaps your intentions were good but believe us You are not our Savior; His name was Jesus Although we remain “one (stressed) nation under God” In your next campaign you won’t get our nod We’ll just take our cause to a far higher Power Because in politicians, our trust has been soured Dedicated to ALL of the politicians who made promises that have not been fulfilled.

History seems to keep repeating itself, Carolyn! Many a time we have been betrayed by politicians, but we go back to vote, hoping that the situation will change. In this poem you have stressed on several points which all too often come up because of their importance, especially for those who are in need. ~ Love & hugs // paul

Spoken like a true patriot from the ranks of the silent majority. What you say is sadly, not what I would have dreamed America would be today. There is however, hope when we get angry enough to write and protest though the greatest media..that of the pen, to demonstrate as you have. Spoken word may be dismissed, the written word impacts forever. You hit hard and I hope the truth hurts Washington ang greedy Corporations when America fully awakens. Mac

I'll admit that your words as well as your message are both beautiful and deserve our respect, but you probably know that already. But I shake my head when one man is blamed for the voting of the multitude. No one who follows and is betrayed has the right to judge, for they chose to be "hoodwinked" in their simple minded faith.

Governments represent their people. if the people are so incredibly divided then that's who they'll vote into office. the job is very hard and I still have faith in the man. After 8 years of practically destroying the world, he was the only thing holding it together from complete chaos and another great depression. but that's not good enough, people hate the governemtn, always finding fault and never seeing the bigger picture. I'm sorry but I'm still an Obama fan and his speech was damn good.

Ah well don't blame me I never voted in Scott Brown, but then I didn't vote in that election. Carolyn with all due respect the man is not a cynical manipulative liar and Jesus would not have governed any differently. I understand if next time around you won't feel the Obama fervor but in all honesty what do you expect from such a Congress? not one Rep. clapped out of turn they're all so whipped.I'm getting tired of people feeling so sour on one man when an entire gov't is made up of more than 1.

i have to trust our president to do the best he can with the oppisition he has. people that if he was doing the right thing they would vote against him any way. just like in the O. J. trial it will be easy to seperate the sheep from the goats. their mouths give them away. jhl

The OBAMABLE snow man. I fell for it also, but give the guy a break, he can't blame congress for everything. They are also liberal controlled. Doon't forget POLI (many) TICS (blood sucking insects). Gotta love it. Vince

Amen sister. I'll bet the next actor, excuse me, I mean politician will be exactly the same. Same as the next, then the next, then the next................ Machiavelli will always exist. I do agree with you though. David

Hi Carolyn--what can I say but this gave me chills after I read this...I don't live in the States but I can see how much your country continues to suffer--I guess anywhere we may be, the sweet words of the politicians are music to our ears during the campaign-but like what you said--what happens after? My country's national elections is this May and it has me scared--thanks for this enlightening write as well as your comments for Memoriver, I am so honored you put it in your faves, thank you :)

The verse was a bit clumsy, the message was unfairly didactic, a tirade against what I interpret our leader - handed pandora's box by the devil, himself,, 'save us!' we cry, after taking the poison of arrogance and wrath,, the surgeon can only follow procedure.. but such wit and elegance, we shall not see again. Yet,, I love a good tirade,, well done! good rhyme that, something with jesus.. I'm surrounded by idiots,, i mean republicans.. oh, thanks for the kinds words!
