Police Morality

Compassion went missing. They had killed their kindness. Hatred was stirred and awoke narrow mindness.. They had been entrusted with keeping the peace but were totally consumed by their anger like beasts.. Empowered by their badges and uniforms, they tasered and kicked til his body was torn. A life ended with savage brutality. What happened to these officers sense of morality?

you make a good point in what these men should represent but the fact is.....it is not the color of a uniform it is the character of the men that comes thru any color....the shining light of to protect and serve was dimmed a bit more than we needed to see as was the Rodney King fiasco....and we must not judge the multitude for the sins of a few...loved the accurate detail...having been on both sides of the fence, i will take squad cars over leather vests on motorcycles arriving

I agree totally that it is the character of the person wearing the uniform. However, there are also a lot of good people wearing leather vests and riding motorcycles as well. Again, it is the character of that person.

I think this is a great write and you wrote it exactly as it happened - where was the human factor of compassion, only sheer brutality and no morality till they killed this man, policing has changed, they think they are a hero, but in fact have dropped to sub-zero.Hugs and blessings, Jennifer.

I know that some who wear a uniform are probably not in the right profession but Jennifer I can't generalize to all police as that would make me guilty of stereotyping them, wouldn't it? I think that a different kind of screening and educating which should be done at the academy level and quarterly trainings on cultural diversity, use of force and weeding out the corruption that exists in these systems might bring about a positive change.
