Poisoned Chalice

Write it out, let your feelings go
But how
And why when feeling no longer matters
I can feel the sun on my skin
Yet I am cold
Colder than a corpse on a mortician’s slab

Look to the future, to destiny
I see crimson red
Red blood pouring from the veins of love
As it lies dying on the ground
I want to stop the flowing
But I can’t

Better the words that don’t give a damn
For I am the poisoned chalice that touched her lip
The steel blade that slashed her wrist
And I am the blackened soul that slaughtered an angel
I feel no hope nor do I want none

In the silence of regret there is no pain
No screams for compassion
Or whispers that promise a dream
As words of sanguine beauty
Must fall
On closed ears.

In the realms of disillusion I could not breathe
Nor was I willing to try
But now I can see with richness and clarity
I have no reason why
