Writing a deep poem is very emotionally draining for me,
pulling the feelings from my soul to share is hard;
and reaching into my heart where my pain dwells difficult,
and in the end it usually will leave me weeping . . .
But that is a poet's lament, a poet's reason,
I have felt it in the poet's of old and in new writings;
it is something necessary to be any good at poetry,
you must be able to bare your innermost pain and sorrow.
Show it to the world with a tear but keep some of the pain,
and let it fall red onto white leaving a forever, ever stain;
yes, let it drip from your pen- let the sorrow and pain drip, drip.
then, let your words soar in the wind like a bird set free,
oh, sometimes, the lament leaves me so sad . . .
that I must pen of nature's beauty to soothe my spirit.
