Poets In the Sky

I dreamed of soaring high above the clouds
To be able to see the world in all its glory
I flew what seemed a lifetime, ever on
But without a destination

I was there, yes, free to ever fly above
In the heavens, I felt or even thought
Aimlessly, carefree, I fluttered on
Flying without hesitation

As I sit here, I remain in needed constant flight
While my mind escapes the boundaries of day
Flying aimlessly, without thought or focus
I’ll fly into the night

The mind escapes, yet the eyes still see the world
Focusing, though, is not possible…cannot do
This is the poet’s curse, to remain
Forever lost in flight
