Notes About The Poem

POETS AND DREAMERS
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The page unfurls—white as a hospital sheet,
stark as a crow’s wing against snow.
Poets scrawl their promises in pencil,
aware that the eraser waits,
smug in its tin.
Mistaking hope for prophecy,
midnight champagne still
bubbles in their veins.
They lean closer and whisper,
This year, the stars will spell my name.
Dreamers clutch their sanguinity like kite strings,
eyes fixed on a horizon
stitched from thin light and maybe.
January believes in them~
poets and dreamers.
