Poetrysoup Convention 2019
I don't like loud places,
but the ambiance was set.
The knights had their roundtables
spread with scented linen,
the ladies, their centerpieces
and candlelight on cornflower laces.
She prepared for this night
a dream she held for so long,
private, in the silence of her heart,
far beyond any questions of right or wrong.
I watched as she sat at her table,
Demure and keeping to herself,
as poet after poet gave readings and rhymes,
an appreciative audience gave their only wealth,
the applause of true creativity.
Then the tables were moved to the edge of the room,
forming a circular dancefloor in candlelight.
Then the music began and there he was,
their eyes met as he took her hand,
and they danced holding each other tight,
as Eric Clapton sang 'Wonderful Tonight'.
*** I guess the contest closed before I became inspired. Oh well, that happens.****
