Poetry Soup Harangue

Must I be a Premi'm Member…
To be a worthy contender?

Must my name be kissed by a star…
For my poems to travel far?

No cov'rage for me on FB?
Don't you think that makes me grumpy?

Right now my finances are tight
So I am stuck in this sorry plight

Thought my words had their own appeal
So I’m waiting to close this deal

Poetry Soup, you feed my soul
But exclusion's taking a toll

Won’t let the battle of the “views”
Compound my monetary blues

My bonus I'd earmarked for this
Got traded for my daughter’s kiss :)

She went abroad to find her dreams
More important to me that seems

The Star Membership will have to wait
Be patient…I’m just running late! :)

Thanks, Richard.....working for the church means never becoming rich.....I guess I have to come to terms with that....though sometimes....putting my dreams on hold gets frustrating....The books arrived!!!! Got notification slip today but couldn't drive there on my own. Will pick them up on Monday.....Thanks for this sweet post.....

Thanks for commenting on my poem, Eileen. So appreciated. I like your poem, and would say, keep enjoying your gift, and I don't blame you for taking care of your priorities first. Always, Annalise

I'm with you Eileen. I put my daughter first and she now has three degrees, including a Phd. She's now taking care of me......Jake

THAT’S MY GIRL! I AM WITH YOU ALL THE WAY! For me PS is an opportunity to express my feelings and I am grateful for that. I do not know how to classify my poems, or how to participate in contests but doesn’t matter, I enjoy writing that’s all! Excellent satire! Para poly kalo kai se agapo poly kai soy stelno polla filia! THANK YOU!

Agapi mou, Demetrios! Thank you for your vote of confidence. I do know how to join the contests, but I don't have the nerve! I'm overly sensitive. For a while back there I lost faith in myself, but....you are right! We must just write for the love of writing! Se angaliaso!

Oh, Eileen what a lovely poem. The membership is not the important thing. Your value comes from the heart. You have a gift and you should share it. I enjoyed your poem.

ah, I love this, I never pick what I'm going to read by some silly star, those that read mine and leave comments, I try to reciprocate and read theirs, and others like yours , where the title catches my interest, I read. This is a cute little poem though, glad I took the time to read it

Ilene........you are one of my favorite! :) I guess I had illusions of grandeur! Many of my friends, who aren't poets, encourage me to try to get some of my work published. Once I got on here...it was a reality check, and I guess I'm just trying to comfort myself! Well, we can always dream! Hugs!

Francine.....thanks for the post! I guess I'm just trying to comfort myself when I see others with such high views... ;) Naughty me! Some of the Star poets are people I truly admire and have written great work! I'm just teasing! That explains the happy faces on the poem! Thanks for your kind words! Hugs!

to me, your poems are always worth reading. i couldn't care less who's a "premium member" (by the way, i am not). this site is far from perfect, but i enjoy reading some of the poems and like knowing that some people are reading my poems. that's usually enough for me. you've made some good points here, though...
