POETRY FOR THE STREETS

" Love Is, What Love Is "

They say love has no face,
Only regrets in the hearts
Of many who tried to purify
Their souls.
I've seen so many eyes burn
With the tears of those who've
Tried to tame love's fire.
I, too, fell victim to love,
Barely escaping its grasp.
The pain still settles deep within me;
I often wonder how long it will take
For the wounds of love to heal.
I believe love has many faces,
But its true identity will never be
Revealed.

A moving, pared-back free-verse reflection on love’s contradictions. The plain, direct diction lets the hurt speak without ornament, while the recurring imagery of fire, tears, wounds, and an unknowable “true identity” gives love a haunting, many-faced presence. The final refusal of easy resolution feels especially honest.
