Poetic Lament

If you say you don’t like it
I’ll pull it from the shelf
that’s just how insecure I really am

Most the time I don’t like it myself
if rejection is the slaughter,
I’M the "lamb"

I need thicker skin
to survive this craft I’m in
or learn to take the bitter with the sweet

If you’re quick to criticize
please don’t blame me if I cry
and lay my self-esteem down at your feet

The line "if rejection is the slaughter I'm the lamb" rung like a church bell in my mind. Nice poem.

..and that's funny because I changed this line a few times

I don't think we have to worry about that here, your poetry is fantastic and there is always a message woven within, but you never know. There are those who offer constructive criticism and that is ok, but when someone just passes through and says, "It stinks" well...they can just keep passing through. Nicely done Gayle
