Pledge Drive

I'm ready for some music; The radio's all set, But begging me for money Is all that I can get. The pleading is relentless, Yet does beseeching serve? For constant supplications Really get on my last nerve. To turn off their entreaties, Subtle as a striking sledge, I simply switch the station; No allegiance will I pledge.

While this isn't political, that's how I can relate. They ask me to agree with them, then my pocket book they bait.

My classical music station has two pledge drive a year and it's done tastefully. I can't say that for some of the sponsored ads. What irks me most, however, is the junk mail asking money for this or that charity. I I tear them up and throw them in the trash can, then the dumpster. And that's that. / M

True it is annoying... But in Chicago, at least, there's very little advertising at all on the classical station throughout the 50 weeks when there's no pledge drive. So, I'm ok with a pledge drive every 6 months. Besides, I'm used to solicitations. At synagogue every morning, there are usually 3 to 4 Chassidim from out-of-town schnorring for money. ~ Gershon

It would drive me mad Ilene and I too would turn over, that said I was involved in a charity event on our local radio station and was answering the phones for the pledges but was also allowed to be on air giving updates as I have broadcast experience from hospital radio and love being behind the microphone - they no longer do the fundraiser live which was a shame as it was such fun:-( hugs Jan xx

You nailed it, Ilene! We are being plagued by a classical music station here in the Springs as I type this for their semi-annual fund drive. Would be the last thing I would support and it is tiring to listen to their endless and inane babble for funds so I turn them off and find a good book to read! - Bob
