Pining Youth

Then in the midst of wild excitement I did play
Among the trees and sapple grass
Bright with the spirit of a summer's day,
Wearing my youthful bliss outward
With dazzling smile and prancing step
And others to share the light awhile
Of a wondrous time in memory yet,
None were the sorrows that strain the heart
Or the waiting displeasures at every turn
Nor the desolate cries of the brain
From which I now yearn,
None, in the midst of my youthful song
When I ran through the dancing meadows,
Delighting in its ways.
