Pilgrimage

An unceasing explorer of the woods of birch and maple until this moment, I wish to weave my dreams of soothing repose in this moment. Every day has painted a tangled image since echoing centuries, I wish to compose a disentangled moonlit ballad in this moment. Strange norms have been followed by mighty emperors of past, I wish to water the gardens of burning graveyards in this moment. Many grievances have been carried on this journey till the end, I wish to absorb uncontrolled stillness in this moment. Perturbed over the fate of burning desires to be drowned or banished, I wish to let the flowerbeds bloom with peace in this moment. Several books have recited stories of ages long gone, I wish to enlighten the future civilizations in this moment. Exhausted existence shivers to spiral on the wheel of life, I wish to live a few more ages at leisure in this moment. Newborn sparks have waged wars to blaze till now, I wish to build my fire from ashes in this moment. The rush on the surface explodes inside trembling minds, I wish to melt the chains of uncertainties by introspection in this moment. Hundreds of words fusing into stories have been written on paper, I wish to pen a tranquil memoir on snow in this moment. Oh the questions that my companions have asked me, I wish to float to their answers on Earth in this moment. The mirror has reflected conversations of virtue with me, I wish to ask a few upfront questions in this moment. Those that departed left their footprints on the sand, I wish to know myself before getting forgotten in this moment. Congregations of enchanting melodies and poetry prevail, I wish to orchestrate a ghazal(an ode) of blissful solitude in this moment. **Poet's Note: I write Ghazals using Urdu words in my own language but I have never written poetry in Ghazal form in English. (Thanks to PS, I got to know Ghazals could be written in English language too!) This one is an old musing of mine written using words from Urdu language in Hindi(Devanagari script). I have kept only one word as it is over here.** June 2, 2020 Try a New Style - Something You Have Never or Hardly ever Tried Poetry Contest Sponsor: Caren Krutsinger ~Winner: First Place BRIAN'S Select 3,any form, any theme Poetry Contest Sponsor: Brian Strand ~Winner: First Place

You honor me, Aditi. Thank you. One of the things I most love about PS - it is a constant opportunity to learn - a process I love. For me it is like an on-going course in writing poetry. So wonderful to see how we learn from each other. All the best to you.

Thank you for exposing us to this unfamiliar form, Aditi. I so appreciated your poet's note to help me understand that this form exists in other languages as well. Your command of English is so masterful, it amazes me to know you write poetry in other languages as well. The second line of each couplet with its template of "I wish to... in this moment" I find so captivating and inspiring. The poetic climax of your last couplet is so sublime. You have graced us with such masterful poetry! ~ John

I came across this form used in English recently which was a delightful surprise for me. Ghazals were originally written in Urdu and in late 18th century in Hindi so I have always been familiar with those forms in my muse. Glad you loved my words and efforts John. I hope to learn more each day. Thank you for your kind words :)
