Actually, I grew up in Chicago, but I've lived and worked in Warsaw, Indiana, Hanover, NH, and Sde Eliyahu, Israel---all really small towns. So I'm kind of an honorary small-towner, so to speak. ~ Gershon

Am reminded of a dear close friend, who moved out of our very colourful neighbourhood... her lament that her son is now growing up in a gentrified white area of town. Children gawk honestly, racism is learned behaviour. Well writ my friend, xomo!

Astute commentary: Sad, but oh-so-true. Eternal vigilance is necessary to ensure that one's own kids don't succumb to racism's temptations...As for others, not much can be done, I'm afraid. And government is NOT the answer, of course. This stuff can't be legislated. The family IS the incubator for all prejudices (the bad and the good ones). Thanks for weighing in, Mo! :) gw
