Notes About The Poem
My mother picks all types of mushrooms and is very knowledgeable on what to pick and what not to pick. It is very relaxing to go into the forest and pick. You must always keep you eyes open. It reminds me of the birds always looking up at the sky and we are no different for we can be eaten too.
Picking Mushrooms
One spring day mom and I went out to pick mushrooms.
Not any mushrooms but wild ones in the woods.
I can pick them but am not familiar with type,
May be poisonous or edible.
We proceeded to pick, watching for fallen branches
or twigs that could slap us with there backlash.
Also, keeping our eyes open for cattle
or for a bear with her cubs.
The deer and moose can also be dangerous .
So with our eyes peeled we picked mushrooms.
All of a sudden, I heard a rustle in the grass.
I noticed that the tall grass was waving,
more than the cool breeze that was blowing.
I said to mom,''come and see why this grass is moving."
We moved slowly and realized what was moving around us.
A chill came to the bone ,
it brought my heart up to my mouth.
Snakes , many baby garter snakes were moving.
Thank goodness, we have no venomous snakes or
we would not have survives our mushroom picking day.
