Phantoms

Phantoms of men and their imaginings
dreams in their mind and its wanderings
reality may never touch the high sky
in which fancy desires and cravings fly

Man surrounded by fruit laden gardens,
forests, woods, waterfalls, and animals,
food, comfort and even loved ones
desires to venture into far away lands

The one on the road lonely and hungry
scorched by heat and length of the day
clutching to heart precious adventures
longs for a place that he can call home

Laboring for days at length the brawny
young men tired of hard and dirty work
envies the prince dwelling in palaces
for his luxuries and his freedom of will

While the prince stares out his window
wondering how satisfying it must be to
earn bread for themselves and families
without a care towards the state affairs

the women without beauty covet it so
and the ones that have it are fed up so
hoping to hide it somewhere in order
to find a love that's true and passionate

Old men lying in beds aspiring for youth
the ones in their prime days for boyhood
children want to go out to work and play
and be tall and strong as fast as they may

As hard to believe as it sounds but it is not
far from the truth that man may never be
satisfied with his share in life as the grass
is indeed always greener on the other side
