Phantom Affair

I wonder where you are even though you sit here by me. In your eyes there is a distance I cannot perceive. Your thoughts are far from me. I cannot compete with that which I cannot see. Is she here with you? Does she whisper in your thoughts? Does she walk through your dreams? Is this phantom desire only an apparition? Or a soulless heart who seeks to tear us apart? Should I not suspicion? Should I panic at the thought or seek appeasement for my broken heart. dedicated to a friend.

This is beautiful, guess the phantom can take many guises to try and come between, which is what gives this poem a broad appeal. thanks.

These phantom affairs can be quite fulfilling. Take it from one who knows. :-)\

It's bad enough to suspect your spouse is having an affair but it's worse to know it's a phantom affair. I feel for your friend. Nice poem Lori!

Reminds me of a song with lyrics which are similar - "You're close to me know but where is your heart". Keep up the good work! Peace and Love Matthew Anish

Nice thought provoking piece. We men don't want to accept the fact that we are more easily tempted by sensual things. We have to discipline our thoughts. I pray to heavenly Father everyday asking to only let me have thoughts of my wife and no one else.

This person whom I can't name is a dear friend. I watched her linger in doubt and heartache over a husband that proved untrue to her not in the usual adultry one would think but to an addiction to pornography. Its funny how one can not compete with shadows

this one makes me want to sigh. I love the title and how the poem has that feeling of a phantom taking his thoughts from you!
