Petroglyphs

resounding echoes in
caves of timelessness
my hands caressing walls of rock
never kissed by daylight

walls that speak loudly
of proud ancestors
immortalizing their
essence and
existence

painting
dwelling
hunting
sleeping
making tools
raising families
communicating

telling stories
leaving messages
their legacy
much like us
in many ways
yet so very different

Congrats Line-- you speak well of the mystery and humanity of the cave dwellers, something I became aware of when I saw some 40,000 year old paintings.

Yes, these caves of 'timelessness' speak volumes of history to us about our past. I am afraid much of our history today survives in the 'clouds' of wireless data. I very thought-provoking poem, Line, and congrats on your Podium win. Hugs, Sandra

Congrats Line. Your poem speaks volumes about the early (cave) man. They made sure their story is timeless by the engravings on the caves. Nice piece.

Such a vivid picture of 'caveman life,' richly depicted---with that finale bringing it all together for us 'moderns.' Congrats on your well-deserved win in the contest, Line! :) gw

They left behind their markings both mysterious and intriguing. Maybe someone will think the same about our markings, lol, I have enjoyed your poem this evening Line

Very much like us, yet so different. And the "us" is changing so rapidly, I rarely recognize the "us" any more. Nice poem, Line!
