Petey's Hallowe'En
Alone inside the big armchair he gazes at the clock
Soon he would be dressing up to go around the block
This Hallowe'en he would be nine and could wear his batman suit
To go out trick or treating and gather up his loot
Promptly at six he started out with promises of fun
But must be back by nine p.m. to get his homework done
He filled his sack at every house as he rapped on every door
And loaded up a ton of sweets a dentist would abhor
He heard the clock ont he village tower chiming half past eight
And knew he must get cracking or else he would be late
The night seemed quiet and eerie and the kids seemed to have fled
As most had done their homework and were heading up to bed
The wind blew up and scattered leaves came racing down the street
They made a scary rustling sound that frightened batman Pete
The moon did glow through the clouds that night like a giant Cheshire cat
And suddenly from behind a tree there appeared a gruesome bat
He took to his heels quickly as it had started in to pour
And flashes of lightening streaked overhead as he headed for his door
This was too much for Petey boy who started in to moan
"I think next year, I'll take some pal - I don't wanna go alone!'
