Notes About The Poem

Pete's Piano-CM

Come September,
I remember
Pete's piano.

Seventy-eight -
year that went straight
into my soul.

Eighty-eight keys
played Mussorsky’s
brooding rondo.

Why did he go
so long ago -
Pete's piano.

Thanks, Jan. As I think about it, I think I felt almost as if he were a big brother.

Dear David, your brevity in the Charlieku form is rich, wistful and beautifully poignant. Such a lovely and loving tribute to your musical friend, Pete. Warmest wishes.. ~Susan

Hi Susan. Thanks. This is true, except his name was Peter (two syllables) and I don't really know exactly what a rondo is. He was my roommate in 1978 when I was 19 - a great guy. He would sit in his room and play Mussorgsky's Pictures from an Exhibition over and over and over. He died in 1990 at age at age 37 from unknown cause. When I think of the characters I've known, I often remember him.
