Petals of Regret

I wrote a lot because the process was new to me
But it permanently altered our relationship.
Then I discovered I was not alone
So much for being alone

My project was something you didn't like
But it was my first classic.
I tried to put you on the front
But you hid your face in my jacket.

I tried desperately to keep up with myself
But I could only go so far.
15 years ending with a whimper
Melancholy heartbreak at its finest.

She was so powerful you almost thought goddess
But she surprised us all when she melted to the floor
I wanted to say "honey just allow me one more chance"
But in her puddle I only saw my reflection.

At night sitting in the clubs
I thought and wrote of her
I already wanted to lead a quiet life
Though the world didn't know it yet.

She never tried to hurt anybody
I didn't know I was hurting her.
