Perfect and Lonely

He’s the victim of his friends who have all said goodbye,
they’ve all walked out on him and he doesn’t know why,
though the innocent who’s suffering he will always try
to act as though heroically out to put things right

He claims nothing ever happened and he hasn’t got a clue,
he was always good to them the best friend they ever knew
but suddenly they changed one day completely out the blue
now all they do is hate him and he is left confused

When he hears the problem he claims it was never real
and as it never happened can’t change the way they feel
He plays the saint who gave to them and to this day is still
trying to explain it as their head that must be Ill

I think he is a liar who’s controlling in denial,
who can’t admit his actions come from his selfish style,
If he did nothing wrong and yet they all treat him vile,
why’s he reaching out to them going the extra mile?

They don’t want to fix it but he won’t let it go,
causing him to suffer more than they could ever know,
all this unfair treatment received is put on show,
the poor innocent little victim who is playing the hero

That’s the story he will tell to anyone who’s near,
the one where he was so good and yet is left with no idea,
doing what a good friend would and so that’s how he appears,
desperate to protect his pride from truth he always fears

All he ever does is look down on them and lie
taking everything on offer that he will not supply
ignorant to his behaviour and assured he’s nice,
lonely still blaming people though he’s cold as ice

Some people can’t admit mistakes it’s very sad to see
they appear as though adults but childlike they be
with everything that happens they say “it wasn’t me”
thinking they’re too clever for the possibility

They play the victim out to fix it most heroically
the pain inflicted on them has been placed there unfairly
they portray themselves as caring giving selflessly
don’t ever overlook the fact they’re perfect and lonely.

What a unique and insightful poem about possibly narcisistic characters. I enjoyed this and was engaged.
