Perception

To see ourselves as others see us --
unmasked images, through others' eyes --
half-formed caricatures, perhaps --
or mere grotesqueries --
barely recognized, telling
what we thought to hide --
we'd label these as skewed
perceptions, not real truth...

But, no matter -- when once
I thought myself unfairly judged
and asked "How so?",
I was reminded of the obvious,
i.e.: all outcomes are determined
by perceived attitudes and actions.
Not truth, but clear perception,
pure appearance, guide others' thoughts
and so create the world we live in.

Thus, however harsh,
"Perception is reality."

Indeed perception cannot be avoided. Yogi Maharishi once said, "The world is, as we are". Congrats Leo, for having your piece featured in the Poetrysoup homepage!! ;-)

Perception does, indeed, stand for a lot -- but, falls quickly when two souls/realities are joined and unlocked. Good thoughts. :-)

I am realizing this more and more about myself the older I get too. You are very perceptive and you write of what you "know" with such clarity.

food for thought, how do we ever know how others percieve the world? So many factors go into shaping our perception, our thoughts and emotions are like filters to clear seeing. Clear seeing without projection or labeling is a state of truth and bliss? A very nice write, thank you.

Leo, we are all responsible for our perception. I like keeping my perception on check. good perception and bad perception are only a pinch of reality... enjoyed this... very much...pd

Leo (Any relation to the Lion)? Sorry, but I couldn't resist! The correlation of ancient astrology's Leo the Lion to your strain of philosphy was simply too obvious to let pass by. This poem provides a glimpse of your ultra-wide vision. Bravo...
