Pause

Slowly my name escaped from her lips with hesitation following, and before she could let go of the truth in her words she grabbed them back and said
Goodnight

I stayed up all night wondering what she did not say and why

Opening my eyes only to recognize I was never asleep

She said “umm we need to talk”

Press play on my heart and watch it sink to my feet

p.s. I dread all conversation pauses…
