Pastel Reflections

I still think of you, in the quiet evening
When the sun is gone and just the moon gives out its glow
I still think of you, as I gaze up high the darkened sky
Stars shine like they did once in your eyes.

Looking back at all life’s sounds and colors we have been through
Cupful of moments we laughed and times we cried
Knowing that I’ll never see the golden sunset with you
Let me hold on to our warm pastel shades.

When I think of you, overcome with sadness
I reach back in time, those summer days of our young hearts
When I think of you, thoughts of your love cloud my hazy eyes
Our hopes and dreams stolen by fate.

Looking back at all life’s sounds and colors we have been through
Cupful of moments we laughed and times we cried
Knowing that I’ll never see the golden sunset with you
Let me hold on to our warm pastel shades.

Now I dream of you, in the mist of madness
I reach out and link your hand with mine, my peace of mind
As I dream of you I live through the steps of our last dance
Please help me have this one more chance.

Waiting for my time, dreaming every night
Wrapped in memory of once precious love.
I think of you.

Nostalgia overlaid with grief combine to make this poem emotionally powerful. In addition, the poet is credible; hence, the reader feels her pain . . . identifies with it. First-rate job, Kim. Bravo (and hugs, too).

Hi Kim, To lose someone in tragic circumstances is so sad. Sometimes one never truly gets over it. You continue, but there is always that emptiness there, just waiting to envelope you again. You try, but you never seem to get past it...........well written Kim--------John

This is so lovely, Kim !! Isn't it amazing that we have all found this music to be so melancholy, and about lost love.? I am playing music while reading all the winners, and everyone did an outstanding poem to match the mood. Congrats to you!

Wow! Kim these are beautiful heartfelt lyrics. You captured the readers heart by penning a beautiful song. I sensed its sadness but the powerful story of love out shined the sadness. Excellent job! Good luck in the contest. (7):-)Alexis
