Passing Thoughts
Civilian life is such a change of pace
No longer running in a rat race
No more setting the watch out to sea
Yet I still feel as I am not free
I worked many an hour in my military day
With meager compensation and no overtime pay
Eighty hours plus a week was common place
Let’s see politicians keep up that pace
Now I have seen many a proposal
Saying military retired pay is disposable
If you had only stood in my shoes for a moment
You probably would have found different employment
Military members are very proud to say
That we have the watch, go enjoy your day
We drink a cup of coffee so our eyes are keen
While you dream up laws to smash our dreams
I understand we need a balanced budget
I just wish you would use better judgment
There are other programs that we can cut the fat
Saving a dime on military folk feels like an attack
I proudly served our country much longer than most of you
I wonder if you’re starting to see the hue
Sometimes the color green is all you can see
You’re just weakening our beautiful country
I’ll end this poem on a thoughtful note
We the People are starting to think you are a joke
Are you doing all that you possibly can?
I think not, step up the pace. Understand?
