Sol

Partly Cloudy

Why is the sun hiding
in a partly cloudy sky
as if I could be damaged
by her uncensored rays.

Who am I to question
the wisdom of Sól,*
the goddess sends
her light to all.

Or denies it to all;
the rich and the poor,
the humble and proud,
the field and the forest.

Every animal that plays
in her light or hunts
in her shadows,
life is her’s to bestow.

Sweet goddess give light
for the battle and blind
the eyes of our foes,
the victory is your’s.

*Norse goddess of the sun
