Parting With My Shoes
They have looked run down for the last few months,
The inside, the laces and the rest,
If only you could see them when new,
Out of them all, they were the best,
Age made them more cosy,
They cut my heels when new,
But their age is now beginning to show,
I knew what I was to do,
This morning dawned wet from overnight rain,
I think its time for my shoes to go,
I took them downstairs and into the front,
I cuddled them, walked very slow,
Then there was a lifeline,
It wasn’t wet, it was just grey,
So the old shoes went back onto my feet,
To last another day.
