Parting

we have parted as lovers
we have parted as friends
it’s what I have learned in-between
that brings us to this end

forgive me if at times, I’m 
confused by how this played
not only did you pull the wool
over my eyes, but the rug
from beneath me feet

what do I do with this truth
these secrets you kept hidden
a heart I thought I might
want to explore 
you had already given away

as I look at what remains
what I find I can’t forgive
it would have been easier 
to part as lovers, instead of
losing one of my friends
