Part Time Poet
Her brain thinks of a double entendre
Then it's lost in a basket of laundry
It comes together on the second rinse
Her muse rhymes a verb but it's the wrong tense
Then comes an hour that seems to be lull
In mid - sonnet a diaper gets full
She thinks of roses while she smells the mess
And tries to describe a lover's caress
So the day goes by amidst the troubles
A roast simmers while a Haiku bubbles
A couplet and a rhyme get done 'fore bed
As she turns her thoughts to the man she wed
Life went on in one world then the other
Poet extraordinare, wife and mother
She saw her best work and also her worst
Somehow she kept her family first
For a part time poet the years flew by
Now the children are gone and she knows why
All those years provided the fertile ground
For the full time poet's life she has found
