As I grow older, the more I know
just what my parents did
For me and my three sisters
when I was just a kid.
They clothed us, and they fed us
and kept us safe at night
when all the world was at war
and the men went off to fight
Our mothers worked and worried
about family far and near
and prayed our dad would come home soon
to a life free of war and fear
We never really understood
We were only kids
But now we know and understand
Just what our parents did,
