Paperdoll
I waited as
she ran across walls
of separation,
watching both sides pull
and tear at skirts
made of paper flowers
each wanting a piece
just a smidgen
with her back
against a wall
of cardboard parquetry,
ever watching for usurpers
in an entrusting look
that passed behind
her eyes,
given away
the spark of fear
that followed it
paranoia?
or just a good old fashioned
gut feeling …
~~~~~
Shes swinging her legs
from one side to
another,
and her hands fumble
in tearing off,
infinitesimal fibers of being
her gut feeling gone,
with the last skein of
paper fluttering on the fence
~~~~~
I look down and watch my feet
sliding,
from side
to side
