Panic

I don’t want to open my eyes.
Because then I can’t pretend it’s not happening.
I reach for my phone, and it’s light and ethereal.
I drop it every time.
I close my eyes again, and again.
The feeling is spreading to my arms and legs.
It’s better in the morning, morning, morning…
I wake and and tell myself I’ll never feel that way again.
Until 8:35, on my way to work.
I had missed breakfast, and barely brushed my teeth.
Maybe nighttime…
Isn’t so bad after all.
