Paint the Wind With Clouds

Now here am I
still floating back to earth,
and lightly so,
for all these words
arrive on little velvet pillows.

I wish I could have
stayed up there
and lingered by your side.
Still it is you who signals me
each day with patient wind.

I feel it gently on my face—
whistling softly in my ears and
lifting distant scents for my mind's reflection,
redolent of blossoms far away—
from so very long ago that I'd forgotten.

Therefore, what am I to do
to reassure you
of my life and time?
How are they now that
I might speak of them?

I have chosen thus
to stand alone
on tall and barren hills—
and daily task myself
to paint the wind with clouds.

"My minds reflection", to paint the wind with clouds, beautifully phrased Mark, I'm torn on who you are addressing, an old love or your maker...well done

This poem is a mystery to me as well. The words arrive, and I write them down. I guess I envisage a sort of figurative journey after departed love that resulted in the sort of insanity that tilts at windmills or paints with clouds.

Hi Mark...let me start off by seconding your closing note to the readers:) I have a feeling that you have been on cloud 9 with your muse. I sense that feeling of release and accomplishment that takes over once we free words from our inner self as we create a new poem. ~ Best regards // paul

Also read my thoughts to Charlie Smith above. I do enjoy that moment when I finally feel a measure of contentment with words I've written. And then I must stop thinking.

To me, this could be a personification of the sky or the clouds themselves or maybe it is a spirit speaking, as it looks down from amongst them... Either way, I think this poem is so beautiful to read... Very well written, Mark!

Kelly, I'm always so pleased to see your image and name near my poetry. Like you, I'm unsure of what to make of this. It simply came this way, and I've been reluctant to do anything about it. I like the mystery of its expression.

Mark, this is absolutely beautiful, I love the imagery here. And I love what you wrote at the bottom. One of my greatest pet peeves are people who post and post and never say a word to anybody!

August 2 for me. Facebook will no doubt notify me of your impending orbital completion, and I'll come up with something to commemorate or commiserate.

Thank you so much for your devotion to my work and your sincere responses. My muse visits infrequently, it would seem, so I'm particularly gratified when a friend takes note.

Connie, thanks so much for taking time to read my poem. Your comments mean a lot to me, as my work now elicits few remarks and would seem to go unnoticed.
