Overwhelmed

My eyes were overwhelmed
By the beauty of her face
How her hair shone in its bob cut
Not a strand was out of place

And when I walked beside her
I felt privileged to be there
I’d have walked a thousand miles
My time with her to share

Yet when she looked into the mirror
A different picture met her eyes
She could see just fat and ugly
And what she called thunder thighs

If I lived another lifetime
Trying to convince her of her mistake
It would have made no difference
She would still be in the lake

Don’t let your mind deceive you
Or others who would tease
You are how you were meant to be
And you have no one to appease

Powerful and compelling write Andy......I think who ever invented the suer model ideal is to blame, we women grow up thinking that is how we are supposed to look since we were brainwashed from an early age. Excellent write. Hugs

A Couple of years ago my daughter took her own life. No one saw it coming---that's the way it is---something deep inside their souls , like a ticking bomb. Even someone beautiful, successful and rich can take themselves out. I feel sorry for Mick Jagger, I really do. Great piece Andy

gosh, did I read this wrong. It sounds like she committed suicide. So sad. And yes, some people cannot be convinced of their beauty because their self image is so damaged. I enjoy your writing style. So you call yourself Andy? MY nicname is Andie

Thank you Andie , its like talking to myself, for popping by .Yes you did read it right . The mind controls all and if we think we are, no amount of convincing will change our views on how we see ourselves. Thank you for sparing time to read my poems. Andy

great poem, robert! so sad when people are so hard on themselves, but it's impossible to convince people of their worth if they don't feel it inside...

Thank you Ilene beauty is certainly in the eye of the beholder and not the beholden. This fact is true, if you think you are you are. Thank you again. Andy
