Out Through the Door
I stand and I gaze out through the door
as I wonder what else life might have in store
then I step out the door and into the cold
and suddenly I feel so very old
as I look around at our world and see
a place that's so different and strange to me
a place like the stories that I used to hear
of a world swept up in hatred and fear
where children can't sing or laugh or play
when bombs reign down on them night and day
where so many live through their innocent years
filled with such sadness and so many tears
And as I look on at this world that I see
I can't help but wonder what more can there be
what more can our world and our children endure
of a place where tomorrow is never quite sure
that place where so many have bled and died
that place where so many parents have cried
I turn and I gaze back through the door
and wonder will this be forevermore
then I cry as I think of what could be
what could be for you and for me
if we taught peace instead of war
and helped our children to be so much more
