Out Of The Blues

We stood as pillars, side by side,
To lead the flock and seek the light,
Tenure finished, hearts untied
From the duties of the holy fight.

I saw the grace within your frame,
The way your smile could heal a room,
And whispered softly to your name
Of seeds I hoped would start to bloom.

I pictured us in frames of gold,
A wedding dance, a light embrace,
A heavy love for me to hold,
A tiny form, a radiant face.

I thought our spirits walked in stride,
A harvest sown in prayer and trust,
But when I opened up inside,
My golden dreams were turned to dust.

The gavel fell, the term was through,
I spoke of life, of "me and you,"
But shock was all the spirit knew
When you called it Out Of The Blues
