Notes About The Poem

Listen to poem:

Out of Reach

I wish I could connect
reach in and make contact
with that restlessness of yours

You won’t or can’t explain
your secrets under layers of concrete
repressed so deep and long ago

I see it in your eyes
and hear it in your voice
you’re damaged goods

A life of flying low under the radar
dodging challenges and dares
without expanding your horizons

Never exploring your potential
never going for your dreams
never reaching for the stars

Your life disheveled and unraveled
will have been a lie a muddled truth
been unlived untapped unreal

They broke you they wore you down
‘til you ended on the streets a drifter
