Our Solemn Duty Climate change is our human plight. Unless we value Eco’s worth, Future famine will plague our earth. It's up to each of us to fight. Use of plastics polluting seas, Drastic harm of rising degrees. Each soul on earth must seek the right... We have environmental tools To help from burning fossil fuels. To make new laws and keep our sight, Clear cutting trees has latent cost Eroding topsoil that is lost. It's up to us to gain insight. Our lives depend on waters clean... In fighting drought to keep plants green. Our solemn duty to enlight... While innocent birds miss in soil As they dive into spilled crude oil. We must not add to common blight, With pesticides and GMO's, Great harm they cause as illness grows. We must keep offspring’s futures bright. Global warming, our dire bane... To keep polluting is insane! Climate change is our human plight. It's up to each of us to fight. Each soul on earth must seek the right... To make new laws and keep our sight, It's up to us to gain insight. Our solemn duty to enlight... We must not add to common blight, We must keep offspring's futures bright. 11/21/19 All About the Environment ~Second Place~ Judged 11-25-2019 This poem was created in the Constanza form I invented in 2007.

Hi Connie, Congratulations on your winning placement! I love the way you formatted this poem then used the poem at the end as the conclusion. Am I correct in thinking most of the poem is done in a haiku style?

No, it is done in my invented Constanza form where the first lines make their own monorhyme at the end making two poems in one. You can Google Constanza form and it will explain the form. Thank you for asking Sam. xxoo

We must do whatever we can to educate the rest of us. "Each soul on earth must seek the right... To make new laws and keep in sight," Well penned. I have grandchildren too, and I want them safe!

And how do we awaken the people who are still in denial? We must keep teaching children so that future generations will do better. Well penned piece and so true.

Exactly! My grandchildren are very aware of our environment and keeping the ocean clean, not wasting water, turning off the lights when leaving a room etc. Schools are doing a better job too of teaching children to be environmentally conscious. Thank you M.L. xxoo

Hello Connie … with the dollar being the God of shareholders leading to the destruction of the natural earth, we can only stem the tide if we act together and accept less. Humanity has forgotten how to work with nature, so now works against it - thank you Connie - Lindsay

I just loved the way you used first line of each stanza to summarize your poem in final stanza--powerful message throughout. Excellent write, Connie--I feel this is a sure win.

Sadly too many governments are not taking this seriously... Even though there is flooding in the UK and fires burning in Sydney...That is sad.. Great poem Connie .

Thank you very much Silent. How much more proof do they need. Our change in weather alone should raise alarm. I go way back to being a supporter of Green Peace in its beginnings. Humanity is the major cause and could be our saving grace if they wake up in time. xxoo

With Trump backing Monsanto, profit still has precedence over human lives in Hawai'i! Perhaps you can persuade Tulsi Gabbard to have, "I told you so" etched on Trump's tombstone? Aloha! Rico

I know, according to him there is no threat of global warming. There are many ostriches with their heads in the sand. Thank you Rico. : ) xxoo
