Our Silence is a Blight
the electric jungle gives us a surreal glow
we think we are in charge because we do not know
that we are blind and stupid, letting the environment die
someday our ancestors will be crying “why?”
Why did they let the forests all get cut down?
Why is there smog and smoke in every single town?
Why are the fish all dead, thanks to pollution, dad?
We are all guilty, for we did not stand up; we are bad.
When we die, we will decompose and become coal.
Is this our legacy? Our ultimate and only goal?
We are pure energy, but who remembers? Who is bright?
The light no one sees is our soul, but our silence is a blight.
