Our Search For Another Earth
Astride galactic spiral's reaching arm,
Our Earth in silent space displays its charm
Within the endless bounds of cosmic space
As if destined to hold a timeless place.
A small part of our homebound galaxy -
We look beyond our solar world to see
If life as we know really could survive
On other planets we might find "alive."
We question if life very like our own
Could exist somewhere in the cosmic throne.
We maintain our existence as the rule -
But, we might offer up ourselves to fool.
Somewhere in space a tint-blue, clouded orb
To travel to - its essence to absorb;
Perhaps a mirror image ilght years past -
A yearned for gleam of hope - perhaps, time passed.
An orb long since destroyed through disrespect -
Once teemed with life but lost through sore neglect;
Blue running streams now turned to murky slogs -
And air transformed to suffocating fogs.
We look to find ourselves in heavens blessed
With thoughts of what could be at our behest.
But, we might search and find our darker side -
The consequence of others' hopes that died.
And yet, the search goes on through time and space
To find a home in some far distant place
That would allow us to resume once more
The life that we had squandered once before.
